I’ve traveled to over 40 countries, and knock on wood, nothing bad has ever happened to me. I’ve never been injured or sick, lost anything, or had anything stolen. I never bothered with travel insurance until six years ago when I booked a trip to Sri Lanka with a tour company. It was the first time I had used a tour company to join a group tour, and they required everyone to have travel insurance.
Before I went to Sri Lanka, I never even thought about travel insurance, and I only bought it because the tour company, Geckos Adventures, said I had to. I researched a few companies, and then a friend who recommended Geckos Adventures also recommended World Nomads. Their site was easy to navigate, their coverage was easy to understand, and their price was definitely right! In fact, I paid the same price for travel insurance through World Nomads two months ago for my trip to Africa as I did five years ago!
World Nomads offers great coverage at a great price, so I purchased my first ever travel insurance for my two week trip to Sri Lanka. I printed the documents and took them with me and figured I wouldn’t think about it again. At that time, it seemed unnecessary to me.
But in Sri Lanka I realized that having travel insurance gave me peace of mind. I realized how relaxed I was, and that I didn’t have to worry if something happened, because I had travel insurance. It changed my entire way of thinking about travel and travel insurance. Now that I have a somewhat expensive camera and lens, and no medical coverage outside my country of residence, travel insurance is more important to me than ever.
Since that trip to Sri Lanka, I purchase travel insurance whenever I travel. My medical insurance here in Kuwait is totally inadequate and doesn’t cover me in other countries. So while I might recover from a lost bag or a broken camera, if I am injured and need medical care, it could potentially cost me a lot of money. Insurance was especially important during my trip to Tanzania when I climbed Kilimanjaro and didn’t know how the altitude would affect me.
Travel insurance doesn’t have to be expensive and that’s very true with World Nomads. For just a few dollars a day, you can relax and enjoy your trip without worrying about lost luggage, broken electronics, canceled flights, and especially medical issues.
If you’re into adventurous travel like diving, climbing, trekking, skiing, or other specialized activities with an element of risk, travel insurance is a MUST! You will have peace of mind and be able to focus on your activities rather than worrying about what you would do if something did happen to you.
